True Valentine

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

This is a poem that was penned by my daughter, Carmyn. This poem helped confirm the Word of the Lord in another young girl who was searching for God. May His Word be spread that it may help many who are seaching.

Valentine’s Day with nothing to share
At home by myself, does anyone care?
Then I hear the voice of my Heavenly Father
Speaking to me His precious daughter
Don’t go looking for love in someone who can’t give it
Now THIS is your life and I want you to live it
Live it for Me and I’ll give you a gift
More precious than anything, will you take the risk?
For a love everlasting is there if you take it
The price that was needed, I already paid it

I’ll Never Be the Same

I’ll never be the same again

Proverbs 4:18 says, “The path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.”

In our fellowship we pray that the Lord meet us every time we meet together. He is invited! In fact, we meet because of Him. Our belief is that every encounter with God, whether individual or corporate, we can walk away a different person. Each encounter will make us different because God desires to change us from earthly to heavenly, from carnal to spiritual, from temporal to eternal, and, of course, from glory to glory – His glory. These changes come by revelations that change our thinking as the world thinks to “Having the mind of Christ” (I Corinthians 2:16). They also come by deliverances where we have been bound by the “Fowler’s snare” and/or “Sin which …besets us, so that we may run the race” (Hebrews 12:1). We walk away washed, forgiven of all our iniquity.

Moses was an example of carrying the glory of God in Exodus 34:29. The encounter between God and Moses made Moses’ face illuminate to the point that Aaron and the Israelites were afraid to approach him. But Moses had something to say, a message from God.

The disciples had a recognizable countenance about them in Acts 4:13, “…That they had been with Jesus.” Later on in Acts 5 we read the story of Annaias and Sapphira and the power that God showed the church with signs and wonders that “Great fear came upon all the church” (Acts 5:11).

There is an ever increasing need for light in this world, but there is also an inexhaustible power supply to make us the “Light of the world.” (Matthew 5:14)

How do we tap into this power supply? II Corinthians 5:21 says we are made the righteousness of God in Him. While Moses’ shine of glory faded, we can be transformed through righteousness as in II Corinthians 3:7-18, to reflect that “…Ever increasing glory by the Lord’s Spirit.” (ISV)

I refer back to Proverbs 4:18 in the Message Bible that says, “The ways of right – living people glow with light; the longer they live, the brighter they shine.” The more we encounter God, the more we are changed into His image. The more we are changed into His image, the more we reflect and carry His glory.

King David knew how to get back to the Lord’s righteousness in Psalm 51:6-18.

“Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts:
And in the hidden parts thou shall make me to
Know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I
Shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter
Than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness;
That the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine
Iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, oh God;
And renew a right spirit within me. Cast me
Not away from thy presence; and take not thy
Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the
Joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy
Free spirit. Then I will teach transgressors
Thy ways; and sinners shall be converted
Unto thee….For thou desirest not sacrifice
Else I would give it: thou delightest not
In burnt offering. The sacrifices of God
Are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite
Heart, oh God, thou wilt not despise. Do
Good in thy good pleasure unto Zion:
build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
Then thou shalt be pleased with the sacrifices
Of righteousness, …”

Let us encounter God with this type of humility and walk away forever changed reflecting His ever increasing, illuminating glory.

Christian Perfection

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

Hebrews 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

The other day I read a quote from a book that I was reading that was freeing and a revelation that I always keep in my heart in everything that I do, think, and say.  Here is a quote from the book, “My Utmost for His Highest”, by Oswald Chambers.  “Christian perfection is not, and never can be human perfection.  Christian perfection is the perfection of a relationship with God that shows its self to be true even amid the seemingly unimportant aspects of human life.”  The above scripture testifies to the fact that we cannot please God unless we do everything by faith.  Faith requires us to believe in, trust in Him for every aspect of our lives; which means we must grow closer to Him to be able to trust and believe in Him.  Thus, Christian perfection comes out of faith and desiring to please Him.

To try to achieve perfection by works is like a dog chasing its tail.  It can never be achieved.  We come to Him and we say look at all the good I have done for you; and all He can say is I could have accomplished all of this without you.  My greatest desire is you.  So, even in works, He is trying to bring us in a closer relationship with Him.  Faith requires us to depend on Him and hear Him for every instruction, for every nudge, for every quiet, still voice in hearing Him, even if that instruction is to do nothing.  That way, in doing nothing, which is sometimes harder than doing something, we become closer to Him.  In this we achieve what God wants – a relationship with Him.

Most people would say that all this takes is obedience, and in a way that is true.  It is obedience to His voice.  What Jesus was trying to get the religious world to see was that the perception of obedience needed to be changed.  The religious then, and the religious now, think that if they follow the scriptures to the jot and tittle they will be okay with God.  And yet, He is disappointed.  What He desires is that they obey His voice and do it while referring to and according to His written word.   This makes God –  a living God, and not just a God of instructions.  Everything that God has done, and will do will is to the same purpose; reconciling His people unto Himself.  This is what pleases Him.

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!

This is something that is being said many times today as we greet one another to eat a spectacular meal that someone has slaved to provide. Though I will participate in this annual ritual, (and I might add, participate in excess) I don’t want to lose the true attitude and heart that My Father wants me to pursue.

Tuesday afternoon I went to prayer time at the church. As I sat there and prayed and also observed these mighty women of prayer and intercession pray with passion, zeal and fervor because they truly believe praying makes a difference in the lives of people and their city, God put a word in my heart. Passion begats passion! The more we pursue Him and taste of His goodness, the more we want of His goodness, His love, His Presence! It becomes an insatiable thirst or hunger for Him, because His love and goodness are without limits. Oh my, how He wants to lavish us with who He is!

I believe that giving thanks can be be a good starting point in obtaining a passion for Him. Start today giving thanks to God for your blessings. Then tomorrow give thanks for Him. Then the next day do it again, and then again and again. You will begin to start sensing some thing different – tasting of His goodness. Before you know it you may be pursuing Him with reckless abandon. Not being able to be satisfied with anything or anyone else other than your Lord and King.

Happy Thanksgiving to God!
